Colonoscopy
Endoscopic evaluation of the large intestines to detect changes or abnormalities within the colon and rectum. This is done with a fiberoptic camera that is long enough to pass through the anus and pass all the way to the small bowel.
As abnormalities are found, samples of tissue are taken of any abnormalities including any polyps that are found. Polyps are known to have the potential to progress to colon cancer. Removing them before they become a problem helps to decrease the incidence of colon cancer in the population. Who should have a colonoscopy?

Upper Endoscopy
Evaluating the esophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestines with a long flexible fiber optic camera system. This allows us to look for ulcers, gastritis, sources of bleeding as well as findings that contribute to reflux and regurgitation. This is part of the workup process for evaluating reflux and esophageal motility disorders.
